The Eye Society
Gloria liked gossiping with the girls – that was why her visits always took so long. Even though she wasn’t sure that the love story between Michael and Diana was true, she joined that conversation as if it was the only thing she cared about. Gloria, clearly, suspected it was all a hoax to build hype, but she didn’t care, as long as it helped her to feel closer to A, B and C.
She had been in their shoes; well, perhaps not exactly the same kind of shoes.
She’d been Brian’s assistant since she joined the research group, which meant she took care of her own eggs during Gary’s and the twins’ conceptions. That, of course, was the difference between her and them, and the girls knew it. A good reason for A, B and C not to trust her entirely. And to be fair, somehow, they were right. The role that she covered required her not to be totally honest to them and they seemed to be aware. If they discovered that Gloria was hiding something about the new girl, she would probably lose them forever. She was dying to tell them, but instead she said,
‘So, who wants to be the first one?’
It was time for the medical room. She could potentially do all the health checks in there, but she usually preferred to keep it easy and use the clinic only for more intimate exams.
‘Oh, my days,’ B exhaled, ‘I can never understand you! Don’t you know the state of my eggs from yesterday… or the day before yesterday?’
‘Or last week, last month?’ C said. B took it as if C was supporting her, but Gloria wouldn’t be so sure about that. It sounded more like C was making fun of B, but maybe it was only Gloria’s impression.
